4 Tips to Beat the Summer Heat
Most modern homes in Edmond, Oklahoma are not designed for extreme weather events, and your air conditioner may be struggling to keep up. This summer, keep your home comfortable with these simple tips.
Tip #1: Cover Your Windows
Windows are a major source of heat being added to your home. Tilt your blinds to reflect the sunlight away from the home or, even better, add a covering to windows that get a lot of sunlight. Keeping the windows covered when they are getting blasted by the intense sun can tremendously help keep your home cool.
Tip #2: Keep The Doors Closed
This rings especially true for those of us with kids. They just go in and out all day long. Or maybe you’re working outside and need to come in to grab a cold drink. We are often unaware of how much heat opening and closing exterior doors can add to the home. If your system is struggling, be more aware of how often exterior doors are being used, and keeping them shut may be just enough to beat the heat.
Tip # 3: Give Your AC Some TLC.
If you’re not having your unit serviced annually, your AC will probably not cool your home well when it’s above 100 degrees. Give it a wash, change those air filters, or schedule a cooling comfort service. Give us a call or schedule at your convenience online.
Tip #4: Limit Some Indoor Activities
Some things that we do at home add extra heat energy and moisture inside. On extra hot days, it may help to change when you do certain things or limit them all together. Cooking, cleaning, laundry, and even a hot shower can add extra heat and moisture that your air conditioning system will have to remove from your home. Take care of these things in the early parts of the day or late in the evening when the sun is setting. This will help your system keep up better, and you will save money by putting less strain on your AC during the times of day when the temperatures are high.
